Validity and Use
Some freeways in Spain and Portugal are subject to tolls and require payment. With the tolltickets toll box Iberia the payment of the road toll is completely cashless, no matter if you use your own car or a rental car. The toll box Iberia not only makes it easier for you to drive on vacation, but also for longer domestic journeys in general, as the automatic and electronic toll means that you don’t have to stop and pay.
Spain
In Spain, tolls are charged at privately operated autovías. Until now, the autovías operated by the public sector were free of charge. In the meantime, however, electronic tolls are increasingly being charged in the free-flow system. Toll-free urban highways and bypasses exist in many major cities of Spain. The Madrid ring road, on the other hand, is subject to tolls for certain sections.
Generally routes on the Balearic Islands – such as Mallorca or Ibiza – as well as on the Canary Islands are toll-free – here there is free travel for all vehicles. At the toll stations there are different lanes: There are usually separate lanes for users of toll boxes supporting the so-called VIA-T tolling scheme, while all other road users have to queue in front of the counters for manual payment (cash or credit card). With the tolltickets toll box Iberia, the payment of the road toll is completely cash-free.
Exclusive lanes: All lanes at toll stations which are designated with a blue circle and a white “T”
are exclusively reserved for users with a VIA-T Box. No other means of payment will be accepted in the aforesaid lanes and you are able to drive through the toll station without having to stop.
Mixed lanes: All lanes at a toll station which are designated with a blue rectangle and a white “T”
also accept other means of payment in addition to the VIA-T box, such as credit cards or cash payments for example. Tailbacks may occur in these lanes on account of manual payments by users without a VIA-T Box.
Driving in France and in Spain with tolltickets toll boxes:
If you have installed a tolltickets TIS-PL toll box for heavy vehicles to drive in France you must remove it in Spain and put it in a shielded bag. Otherwise it would create double transactions and could cause troubles at the toll stations.
Portugal
The freeways in Portugal are mostly toll roads. In Portugal, several operators levy tolls on many highways and bridges for all vehicles within the toll scheme ViaVerde. The toll depends on the distance driven and on the vehicle type. The tolltickets toll box Iberia can be used in the entire ViaVerde toll network. This means that you do not have to stop at the toll stations all the time and can reach your vacation destination quickly and conveniently.
On conventional toll roads, a ticket is taken when driving on the tolled road. This ticket is paid for with cash or credit card when driving off the freeway. With electronic toll routes, only electronic toll portals are available.
Manual payment of the road toll:
The toll can be paid directly to the service staff on lanes at the toll station that bear this symbol. The toll can be paid via a machine on lanes bearing this symbol. The toll for Portugal is payable in cash or by credit card. Please note that not all credit cards are accepted and that manual payment is not possible at all toll stations. Due to the limited payment possibilities of the toll, the tolltickets Iberia toll box from tolltickets is all the more practical.
Automatic toll charging in Portugal:
All motorway lanes marked with this symbol are reserved for drivers who use a ViaVerde enabled toll box for automatic payment of the toll in their vehicle. The toll box Iberia allows you to pass all toll stations without stopping for an extra ticket. The toll charges are simply billed via tolltickets.
Car parks in Portugal
The tolltickets toll box Iberia can not only be used for tolls, but also in all car parks in Portugal that are signposted with the “V” symbol. Using car parks is only supported for vehicles which don't have a Portuguese licence plate number. You do not need to draw a parking ticket. When entering, simply press the “V” button and the parking fee will be charged via tolltickets.
Vehicle classes
Spain
The tolltickets toll box Iberia can be used in Spain with all vehicles (including trailer).
In the Spanish toll network, a distinction is made between the vehicle categories “Ligeros” and “Pesados”. Ligeros include motorcycles with or without sidecars. Pesados 1 includes vehicles up to 3 axles with twin tires. Pesados 2 are vehicles with 4 axles or more, such as passenger cars with multi-axle trailers.
Category I “Ligeros”: Motorcycles, passenger cars, passenger cars with single-axle trailer and motor homes
Category II “Pesados 1”: Passenger cars with two-axle trailer, buses
Category II “Pesados 2”: Bus, truck with 4 axles or more
Portugal
The vehicle class is determined automatically on the toll stations or automatic toll gantries. Your tolltickets toll box Iberia can be used for all vehicle classes. In Portugal, a distinction is made between Class 1, Class , Class 3 and Class 4. The classes are differentiated between motorcycles and vehicles according to the number of axles.
Class 1: Motorcycles and vehicles with height below 1,10m at the first axle, with or without trailer
Class 2: Vehicles with two axels and height equal or above 1,10 m at the first axle
Class 3: Vehicles with three axles and a height of more than 1,10 m at the first axle
Class 4: Vehicles with more than three axles and a height of more than 1.10 m at the first axle
The tolltickets toll box Iberia is linked to your vehicle’s license plate. However, the toll box can be used in another vehicle at any time. Before changing vehicles, all you need to do is to re-register the toll box to the new vehicle’s license plate number via your customer account.
