Validity and Use
The Italian toll system often proves complicated for motorists. With the toll box Italy, all toll costs of the covered routes are summarized and listed to make it easier for the motorist to get an overview of the toll costs.
In the country of Italy, most freeways are subject to tolls. The various freeway operators of the Italian freeways share the route network among themselves and therefore sometimes charge different tolls. These tolls or freeway fees are usually based on the actual distance traveled on the freeway in Italy. In addition, there are also freeway sections in Italy for which a certain lump sum has to be paid.
Before driving on the toll freeways, you have to pass the payment points of the barriered toll stations. Those who drive without a toll box must take a ticket at the entrance to the freeway and keep it with them. When exiting the motorway, the ticket must be presented again to pay the amount due by credit card or cash in order to calculate the road toll.
This is different with the toll box Italy: the barrier at the respective toll station opens automatically with the toll box, both on entry and exit. tolltickets users can drive swiftly in reserved lanes through the toll plaza. These lanes bypass the congestion of the other lanes, which is a great time saver for your journey through Italy and Europe.
The tolltickets toll box Italy is valid on toll roads and in the free-flow system around Milan (Autostrada Pedemontana Lombardia).
Using the toll box Italy
Lanes reserved for the SIT-MP/SET interoperable electronic toll service are identified by the logo shown below.
The concessionaire Autostrada Pedemontana Lombarda, which manages toll motorways equipped with the Free-Flow Multilane toll collection system around Milan, without toll barriers and toll booths, indicates the available payment methods by means of special vertical signs placed respectively on each entry junction ramp, on each exit junction ramp and along the motorway route.
Using other lanes
In the event of any anomalies encountered when passing through the entrance station, and if it is not possible to complete the transit, you have to collect a ticket, in particular:
In the event that all facilities marked with the SIT-MP/SET logo are not usable at the entry station, it is necessary to transit to another lane and collect the entry ticket.
If, while passing through the SIT-MP/SET-enabled entry lane, the traffic light inside the lane is red and/or the barrier does not raise, it is mandatory to stop the vehicle and collect the entry ticket from those lanes where this is possible, or to request assistance using the appropriate button on the toll station terminal.
The following lanes can be used for collecting tickets via cash payment or credit card. You should not rely on payment by credit card solely, because they may not necessarily be accepted everywhere. The credit card lanes are not manned by personnel. If you drive into a lane with credit card acceptance and your card is not accepted then you will need to get manual help. Turning around is strictly prohibited and can be very expensive.
Blue lane (no personnel) Automat for credit cards only.
White lanes (without personnel!) Automat for cash and credit cards.
White lanes with personnel cash payment.
